Calculate the Horizontal Length After Slope Correction of Tape

Calculate the Horizontal Length After Slope Correction of the Tape

Mathematical Problem:

The downhill end of the 30m tape is held 70cm too low. What is the horizontal length?

Solution:

Given,

l = Length of the tape = 30 m.
h = 70 cm = 0.70 m

Correction for slope = [latex]\large \frac{h^{2}}{2l}[/latex] = [latex]\large \frac{0.7^{2}}{2\times 30}[/latex] = 0.00817 m.

Hence, the horizontal length = 30 – 0.00817 = 29.99183 m
