India was the home of one of the earliest and most advanced civilizations in the past. The architecture of India is among the best all over the world and the proof of this is all the historical monuments in the country.
If not for colonial rule India could have been at present among the most developed countries in the whole world. In the field of architecture since independence, India has achieved a lot as well.
Nowadays the most common form of architecture admired by all is the skyscraper. The first skyscraper in India was built in the year of 1959 in the city of Chennai. The name of the building was LIC Building and it was 12 floors high.
However, within two years of completion of the LIC building, it was dethroned from the top by a 25-storied building in Mumbai. The name of the new tallest building in the country was Usha Kiran Building.
Top 10 Tallest Buildings in India
Over the years, a fair share of tall buildings has been constructed. In India, Mumbai is the city with the highest number of skyscrapers and high-rise buildings. In Mumbai, there are about 5600 high-rise buildings and around 200 skyscrapers. All the other metro cities also have many skyscrapers as well. We will take a look at the top 10 tallest buildings in India as of 2023.
Note: All buildings given in this article are already completed and open for their service. No such a buildings are given which are expected to complete in recent years or further.
1. Palais Royale
Currently, the tallest building in India is Palais Royale which is located in Worli, Mumbai. The construction of India’s tallest building began in the year 2008. The structure is built in a plot that was previously owned by Shree Ram Mills Limited.
Since the beginning of its construction, the work has been stated many times. The project was given green light by the Supreme Court of India in 2019. Finally, after about 13 years of its starting construction, the building was opened in 2021.
It is a residential building and is 320 meters(1050 feet) in height. The total cost for the completion of the project was ₹3000 crores. The building has a total of 88 floors with 12 lifts.
The company behind the construction of such an enormous building is the Raghuveer Urban Construction. Originally the building had 120 floors but due to permission issues, the height was set at 320 meters.
2. World One
At about 280.2 meters(919 ft.) in height, World One ranks second in the list of the tallest buildings in India. The building is located in Lower Parel, Mumbai. The building is owned by the Lodha group at this time.
There are also two other buildings made in the same complex, but this building is the highest of the three groups of towers constructed together. The entire project was built on a defunct plot of Srinivas Mills.
The construction began in the year 2011 and was completed in 2019. Officially it was opened in 2020. The estimated cost of the project was about $321 million US dollars.
At first, the tower was set to be as high as 442 meters, but the disapproval of the Airport Authority of India led to its current height. The building has a total of 78 floors with 2 below ground level and 76 above the ground level.

3. World View
World View comes in third place in the list of the tallest buildings in India. The tower is in the same complex as that of World One in a plot of 7.1 hectares.
The work on the tower began in 2015 and was completed in 2020 taking just five years to be built. The building is 277.5 meters(910 ft.) tall, just 2.5 meters short of the World One tower.
There are about 73 floors in the building. Both World One and World View have become landmarks of the area they are located in. This tower is also used for residential purposes.
4. The Park
In the fourth spot, comes The Park. The Park is a luxury residential project. It is located in Worli, Mumbai. The Park consists of five towers(Lodha Trump Tower, Lodha Marquise, Lodha Kiara, Lodha Allura, Lodha Parkside) of the same height, which is 268 meters or 879 feet.
The Lodha Group were the developers of this project as well. The plot in which the Park stands was bought by the Lodha group from DFL Limited in 2012. There are 78 flowers in each of the towers of the Park.
The construction of the project started in 2013 and was completed in 2020. The project was a great success as many Bollywood stars acquired flats in the towers. Aishwarya Rai Bachchan was the ambassador of the project and she has a 4BHK flat in this property.
The main architect of the luxurious residential apartment was WOHA. They are an architecture company from Singapore that has had over the years designed many big projects all over the world.
5. Nathani Heights
Nathani Heights is the fifth tallest building in India. This building is located in the Mahalaxmi area of Mumbai. The work of this building started in 2012 and in 2020 the work was fully completed.
The building is about 262 meters(860 feet) in height. There are 72 floors in total in the building. It is perfect for someone who loves views from the tower and for sure, it has one of the best views a skyscraper can offer in the whole of Mumbai.
As it is situated in the middle of Mumbai, one will for sure get a breathtaking view of the Arabian sea and the Mahalaxmi Racecourse. This building was designed by “Thornton Tomasetti” and the developer of the project was Multiplex.
6. The 42
It is the only tallest building in India that is not located in Mumbai. The 42 has become another gem for the city of Kolkata. It is located in Chowringhee the central business hub of the city.
The project was first proposed in 2008. The construction was also started but due to delays, it took about 11 years to be completed in 2019. For a short while of time, it became India’s tallest building as well.
At about 260 meters(853 feet) in height, it is the only skyscraper that is not suited in Mumbai. There are a total of 65 floors in the building. This building is also used as a residential building.
The plot of the building according to records belonged to the Maharaja of Darbhanga. This is another building that was designed by Hafeez Contractor.
The main developers of the group were Mani Group, Salarpuria Sattva Group, Diamond Group & Alcove Realty. However, the main contractor was ACC India Private Limited. The building is a gem that is added to the skyline of Kolkata.
7. One Avighna Park
One Avighna Park is another twin tower luxury building of Mumbai which is used for residential purposes. Located in Parel, Mumbai the building is 260 meters(853 feet) high. The building has a total of 64 floors in number. It acquires the number seven position in the list of the tallest building in India.
The building was opened in 2019 and was fully developed by Avighna India limited. There are 3,4and 5BHK flats for very few individuals in this building. The One Avighna Park has received a certificate from the Indian Green Building Council and is premium-rated.
8. The Imperial
The Imperial is located in Tardeo, Mumbai. It is a twin-tower building and is among the modernist luxury apartments of Mumbai. It was the tallest building in India from 2010 to 2019 before the completion of The Park. At present, it is the 8th tallest building in India.
The building serves as a residential place for many big celebrities and businessmen. The construction of the building started in 2005 and was completed in five years in 2010.
The towers are both 210 meters tall and with the antenna spire, it is 256 meters(840 ft.) high. Each tower comprises 60 floors. The chief architect of the project was Hafeez Contractors. It is owned by S D Corporation Pvt. Ltd.
It was the first of its kind building in India where two same towers were built and used for residential purposes. Truly a gem in the skylines of Mumbai, The Imperial is a magnificent work that for a long time would have been the landmark for all.
9. Ahuja Towers
At nine, comes the Ahuja towers located in Prabhadevi, Mumbai. It is another skyscraper that stands in Mumbai and is used as a residential building.
The building is 248.5 meters(815 feet) high and is a luxury apartment that was completed in 2015. There are a total of 54 floors in the building.
It is the home of Indian opener Rohit Sharma. It is also a luxury project and mainly home to some of the richest persons of Mumbai and even the whole country.
The building was completed in 2015 but was proposed way back in 2006. The project was built by Ahuja Constructions and is one of the most premium buildings on the skyline of Mumbai.
10. Crescent Bay
The tenth spot acquires a tower under a project named Crescent Bay. It is a project consisting of six buildings together. The highest tower of these six towers with a total height of 239 meters and has 62 floors in total.
It is a premium project which was developed by L&T Realty and Omkar. All the buildings are aligned in such a way that they look like a crescent moon. The project is located in Parel, Mumbai. Such a beautiful project will make the skyline of Mumbai look even more beautiful and breathtaking.
