Tokyo Tower

The Tokyo Tower is the second tallest structure in Japan. The tower was constructed for communication purposes. In June 1957, the construction of the tower was started and on 23 December 1958, the tower was opened. The tower is currently used as a communication tower and an observation tower. The Tokyo tower is located in Shiba-Koen, Minato, Tokyo. The height of this tower is 333 meters or 1091 feet. Meanwhile, its observation floor is located at a height of 249.6 meters.

It is designed to look like the Eiffel Tower, hence it is known as a japan based Eiffel Tower. The Tokyo Tower is owned by the Tokyo Tower Company. The estimated cost of the building after its construction in 1958 was US$ 8.4 million. In the tower, there are 16 floors with 4 elevators. The Tokyo Tower was designed by the architect Tachū Naitō. Nikken Sekkei Ltd and Takenaka Corporation are the structural engineers and the main contractor of the tower respectively.

The Tokyo Tower is a major tourist attraction and more than 150 million people have visited the tower. The main source of income for the tower is tourists and antenna leasing. There is a four-storied building in the tower in which there are museums, restaurants, and shops. It is also the place from which one can visit the observatories of the tower.

The first observatory is at a height of 150 m and is known as Main Deck. Meanwhile, the other observatory is at a height of 249.6 meters and is known as Top Deck. In 1961, antennas were installed in the tower which was used by television and radio outlets. Currently, Japanese media outlets like NHK, TBS, and Fuji TV are using the tower. The tower is colored white and international orange every five years and it takes one year to complete the painting work.

Tokyo Skytree

Tokyo Skytree is the tallest structure in Japan and the third tallest structure in the world. The Tokyo Skytree’s construction started on 14 July 2008 and was completed on 29 February 2012 and was opened on 22 May 2012. The tower is located in Sumida, Tokyo, Japan. The height of the Tokyo Skytree is 634 meters or 2080 feet.

However, its roof is located at 495 meters and the top floor is located at 451.2 meters. There is a total of 32 floors in the tower with 3 floors below the ground level as well. The estimated cost of the building is 65 billion yen. The Tokyo Skytree is owned by Tobu Railways. The chief architect of the tower is Nikken Sekkei who designed the tower in Neo-futurism style.

In the Kanto region, the Tokyo Skytree is the main television and radio broadcasting location. The main reason for building this tower is that the Tokyo Tower become a dwarf in comparison to its neighboring buildings.
