Thermal insulation of exposed Walls
The following measures may be adopted to prevent heat flow through exposed walls:
1. We know that the thermal resistance is proportional to the thickness of the wall. Therefore, the thickness of the exposed wall should be sufficient.
2. Use of thermally insulating material prevents the flow of heat through the wall. If structurally possible, exposed walls may be made by using thermal insulating materials.
3. The exposed and inside face of the wall should be covered by fixing thermal insulating materials directly to the walls.
4. As possible as light colored distemper or white wash should be used on the exposed face of the wall, which helps to minimize the absorption of heat through the wall.
5. Hollow air space may be created on the exposed or on both faces of the wall by fixing hard boards on battens secured in the wall.
