Andorra la Vella, the most famous & developed city in Andorra

Andorra la Vella located at the conference of Valira del Nord and Valira del L’Orient is the capital of Andorra. The city is at a height of 1,023 meters above sea level making it the highest capital in Europe. The site of the city has been inhabited by humans for a long time, however, it became the capital of Andorra in 1278. To date, the remnants of the old time are still visible in Andorra la Vella. The country of Andorra as well as the capital Andorra la Vella had been isolated for a long time however in the mid twenty century and especially during the early 1990s things changed. It became a popular tourist destination and due to its low to no import duties, it became a tax haven as well.

The population of Andorra la Vella in 2015 was 22,886 but it has been in positive growth. The city is located at a high altitude thus most of the year the temperature usually remains low. The city of Andorra la Vella is divided into three villages which are as follows: La Margineda, Andorra la Vella, and Santa Coloma.

Andorra la Vella is a picturesque location with beautiful mountains and landscapes. The city’s main landmark is the Saint Stephen Church in the centre where one could see old houses and stone streets. The Saint Stephen Church was built in the 12th century and is a Romanesque architecture. The parliament building of Andorra is also located here which is also a landmark and old building. As the country is located between Spain and France the culture is a mixture of both of them. In Andorra, the official language is Catalan however both Spanish and French are also commonly spoken. Only one-third of the state’s population is native of Andorra with more than 40 percent being Spanish and the rest from France, Portugal, and other countries.

Andorra is a state located in the hilly regions so agriculture and industries are difficult to set up here. Andorra la Vella is the commercial hub and 80 percent of the GDP of Andorra is derived from the tourism industry. Every year about 10 million people come to visit Andorra and its beautiful capital city. Moreover, many banks and businesses which are positively impacted by the state’s tax haven status are located here as well. The city of Andorra la Vella is connected to both Spain and France in terms of transportation. In the city center, there is a commercial heliport. The nearest airport to Andorra la Vella is 24 km away in Spain which operates domestic flights all over Spain.
