Engineering classification of soils

The purpose of soil classification is to arrange various soils into groups according to their engineering or agricultural or other various properties. For engineering purposes, the soil may be classified by the following systems.

1. Particle size classification
2. Textural classification
3. Highway Research Board(HRB)classification
4. Unified soil classification.
