Krakow is the former capital of Poland and the second-largest city in Poland. The city Krakow is the most famous city in Poland and it was set up in the 7th century making it one of the oldest cities of the entire European continent.
It was a major center of education, academics, culture, etc. in Poland. Until 1596, Krakow served as the administrative center of Poland under the king’s rule. Moreover, Krakow is the most visited city in Poland because of its architecture, culture, landmarks, etc. Although the city witnessed many invasions still the culture, tradition, and atmosphere have remained the same. Above are those reasons why Krakow is called, ” The Magical Pearl of Poland”.
The beautiful Wawel Royal Castle is the most famous and most visited building in Poland. The castle was the first Polish structure to be declared a UNESCO World Heritage site. The climate of the city is of very moderate type and except in the winter, the temperature is usually very mild.
Krakow has grown as a city over the years and in the same way, the architecture of the city has also evolved. This is evident as there are structures made in different architectural styles. Some of the most famous structures of the city of Krakow are the Wawel Royal Castle, Palace of Art, Manggha Museum of Japanese Art, Saint Mary’s Basilica, The Cloth Hall, etc.
The city of Krakow is one of the greenest cities in Europe as there are about 40 parks along with many gardens and forests. The city center has many of these parks and gardens like the Royal Garden, Planty Park, Zoological Garden, Jordan Park, Botanical Garden, etc. making the city center perfect for tourists as well as locals.
When it comes to being an economic center, Krakow is one of the most important economic hubs of Poland. A large number of global multinational companies have their offices in Krakow. Some such companies are Cisco, Comarch, Shell, General Electric, Uber, IBM, Hitachi, Capgemini, etc.
The public transportation system of Krakow is very efficient and simple. Most of the public transportation is mainly buses and trams which run on time and at regular intervals, and also horse carriages are the most popular medium of transportation. Moreover, there are sidewalks, with lanes for cyclists. All the public transportation of the city is under the municipal corporation of the city. The connectivity of Krakow with other cities of Poland, as well as some international cities, is also good as these services are catered by the railways.
Although the majority of the population of the city of Krakow is Polish, it is still diverse. As there are many people from different places of the world who live here. As of 2021, the population of Krakow is 800,653.
Since Krakow was founded in the 7th century it has always been a center of education. A large number of students not only from other parts of Poland but the whole world come here to study. Jagiellonian University is the oldest university in Poland. Other important universities in the city are AGH University of Science and Technology, Krakow University of Economics, Agricultural University of Krakow, etc.
As of 2021, Krakow received around 11 million tourists every year of which around 1 million travelers from other countries. Some of the major tourist attractions in and around the city are Central Square, Wawel Castle, Barbican, The Dragon’s Den, Ojców National Park, etc.
